Ticket guidance suggests that commenting on closed tickets is not
encouraged or useful, so I'm posting to the dev list.
This ticket has just been closed, but DVD menu buttons are still far
from perfect for DVDs created by MythArchive. They used to be better
several years ago, perhaps around 0.21, as Stanley said, and I suspect
they probably got broken as a result of attempts to outwit uncooperative
commercial DVDs. Usually, but not always, vlc gets it right, so it's
more likely to be a player problem.
I've tended to choose my MythArchive theme to get a menu that would
work, albeit with badly positioned or incomplete buttons, but as far as
I remember non-animated themes often don't show buttons at all.
Attempts have been made in the past by me and others to draw attention
to these problems and a I remember one other cut-down .iso being posted,
but in the end it seems simpler to accept that this isn't a matter of
great importance or interest in the dev world and just use the
unpolished product as is - or use another player.
For me the actual playback of these DVDs has been greatly improved in
0.24-fixes, and I rarely have problems now in going from dvb-t
recordings to a finished DVD; but I do restrict myself to a
deliberately simple path through a lightly patched version of
mythburn.py - and that's another reason why I haven't submitted more
reports.
