I can see the issue from both sides, and certainly understand the
reluctance to touch "dead" code. Even if the fix is a one-liner, the
time spent debugging this would rob a developer of valuable time that
could be better spent elsewhere preparing 0.24.

Does the rewrite extend to the library functions that underpin
mythtv-setup, or just the UI? I only ask as I am still hoping for some
feedback on whether my trivial patch on #8525 is suitable for commit
before everything is closed for 0.24.
