You still have issues then someone enables timestretch, find that it's
unusable because his system is too slow ; how does he revert back to
settings that used to work fine until he activated timestretch or any
other processing ?

You can't get rid of FP; conversion was always done, except that it
was done several times for each processing requirement (timestretch,
upmix, resampling etc...)
As it is now, it's faster because the conversion only happens once..
