OK.  I've looked through the commits list, but I don't see anything
else related to this ticket other than what is already in the ticket.
I certainly don't see anything that would indicate who is and is not a
dev or who I should or should not reply to.  What am I missing?

Anyhow, it's pretty common on other projects to which I submit patches
to be requested to provided a detailed discussion of the use case, so
it did not seem out-of-place for such a request or response.
