Big nod in that general direction from me. If I wasn't rushed off my
feet with other projects I'd try and do something here, but sadly I
simply don't have the time right now.
IIRC from previous protocol discussions, one of the aims was to stop
frontends needing to connect to the mysql server directly - that is, the
protocol, should be the protocol and nothing else needed. It should be
possible to grab all the necessary information, and perform the
necessary updates all without mysql libraries. Perhaps this viewpoint
has changed now or I've not remembered correctly tho', so apologies if
that is the case!
