Not to nitpick, but you can simply compile MythTV from source, apply your
patch, and your system will not be down.  It is not as if you don't have a
workaround here and the bug will be looked at/addressed as soon as the
developer has time.   Instead of "bumping" your ticket, you might consider
building from source to address the issue.
