[mythtv] Problem with mythtv on a G3 imac - segfault

Hi Guys,

slightly off topic question - I'm trying to get a mythtv frontend running on
a imac ppcG3 (500Mhz). It's running Ubuntu and I installed the standard myth
frontend package using the package manager (myth backend (same version) is
running on a x86 dell box and has been working fine for sometime now). When
I try to start mythfrontend it works fine, but then if I try to watch live
tv or a recording it segfaults. After some googling it seems that there is a
problem with the G3 because a cache can become corrupt on the CPU (sorry
it's all a bit vague - it was a couple of weeks ago I ran into this issue).

Anyway, I then tried to compile myth from source and after installing all
dependencies gcc gave the same segfault. Next though was to re-compile the
kernel with the pesky cache disabled (this is a kernel option), but - guess
what ? gcc seg-faulted and I can not build a new kernel !

So the question is - how can I get myth frontend running on my imac ?

All suggestions welcome :)

Simon
