There is a similar patch for the opengl version available as well.  I 
have used both for a couple of years, but not got around to submitting a 
proper patch

I had it in mind to create a libmyth object which would calculate 
bounding boxes, and a subclass of this would figure out the current 
screen resolution... Anyway it's still on my todo list...
