[mythtv] Is anyone working on anything like this?

YES!!! there is in fact a howto on writing plugins... it's at the very
bottom of the wiki, if you can navigate the maze. It answers a LOT of
questions I had, and actually gave me a working plugin within an hour or
so (compared to the several evenings I spent banging my head against a
keyboard by writing a plugin by looking at how the other ones were written).

I think that this topic would be an excellent addition to the wiki, a
howto on launching processes from mythtv and how to communicate with
them. :-)

It would lower the barrier of entry for a lot of people just like you
and me who want to tinker with myth and eventually to make it better.
