I thought I was going round the bend for a moment but nope -

$ tv_grab_uk_rt --version
XMLTV module version 0.5.45
This is tv_grab_uk_rt.in version 1.77 2005/03/01 08:56:45

$ tv_grab_uk_rt --capabilities
Unknow option: capabilities
To configure: /usr/bin/tv_grab_uk_rt --configure [--config-file FILE]
To grab listings: /usr/bin/tv_grab_uk_rt [--config-file FILE] [--output 
FILE]  [--quit]
List channels only: /usr/bin/tv_grab_uk_rt --list-channels [--output 
FILE]  [--quit]

I'll investigate further later but at least I now know it does support it.
