i have been doing so.

don't install msys on top of mingw.
i did and it works - up to the point when you try to build qt
and then all hell breaks loose.

i feel like i'm playing snakes and ladders. i almost get to the top and
then i hit a snake and end up back at the bottom. anyway, i'm learning
quite a bit about mingw/msys in the process :-)
