[mythtv] Flicker During Video Playback - Testing Older Versions

Hi,

I recently upgraded to the release-0-20-fixes branch (r11261). I'm now
seeing what I would call random flicker or horizontal lines of varying
length and location appearing during video playback. Oddly, even when
the video is paused the lines will continue to appear and disappear.
I've observed this behavior in both MythTV and MythVideo using the
Internal player. Viewing images in MythGallery and watching the same
videos (IVTV and DVD rips) in mplayer, however, looks 100% fine.

Given that this flicker appears only with Myth's internal playback and
not mplayer, it seems to me to be something within Myth. Since I didn't
have this problem with previous versions (0.19), I'd like to
definitively determine whether it was something that came from 0.20 or
some other change to my system. Is it possible to build/test previous
versions without removing 0.20 and breaking my production box? For
example, if I set the build prefix to my build directory, this will
affect the runtime prefix, correct? Could I then run "mythtv foo.mpg"
from there and hopefully determine if the older version gives me the
same problem? The mythtv binary shouldn't look at the newer installed
myth libraries or DB for this task if the runtime prefix doesn't point
to them, right? Any other thoughts on what could be causing this flicker
or where to start looking?

Thanks,
Joe
