Sorry for bringing this older thread alive again, but I searched the 
archiv and found this one describes my major problems with mythtv. My 
context is all SD from DVB-S (Astra Europe) and the playback is much 
better if I force mythtv to use interlaced video scan. I can now read 
tickers on news channels and can watching star trek enterprise on Kabel1 
without getting eye cancer. :-)

Until the decision, if the autodection should be smarter or an override 
option is better, there is a simple way to force interlaced scan mode. 
Just set m_scan_locked to true in *NuppelVideoPlayer::OutputVideoLoop 
(NuppelVideoPlayer.cpp). In the 0.20 fixes branch it is today in line 2542.
