[mythtv] About plugin building / multitasking and code changes

Hi all.

A few days ago I have talked with a lot of people on #mythtv-users channel.

Its my first contact with mythtv. And I got I big challange. Put this tool
on 160 classrooms here on Brazil.

The classrooms are in a lot of buildings, every building has a local server,
and 3-10 classrooms per building.

I wish to use FAI to install the systems and maybe cfengines to keep them
running.

We want to use this software as tool in classroom. To play videos, audio,
images, dvd, browse internet and show documents everything on a tv set.

I have a little list of features to build on MythTV.

1. Ability to display PDF, ODTs, ODPs. I first idea is open evince, or kpdf.
The user will be able to change using ALT+TAB. But I want to build a
interface to browse a documents dir (as watch videos plugin). How can I
start?

2. Ability to play audio while doing other tasks, as imagegallery or showing
documents (topic 1). In background the audioo control should be done using
default  keyboard multimedia keys.

3. Scan pendrives as done with optical discs, and open them to play audio
(ogg), video (mpg), images (jpg), or documents (as item 1)

About myth-browser I have some points:

1. Be able to open documents as PDFs, ODTs, and ODPs. How can it be done?

Im a regular C programmer.  Know a little (real little) about java, C# and
C++. Nothing about QT/KDE libs.

All tips and ideias about how to put this working will be nice.
