You don't have to do this.  If you don't and it's a valid bug, someone 
else will see the crash later and report it.  (That being said, I'm 
using SVN trunk rev 10066 (for the last few hours) and 10018 before that 
(for 5 days), and it seems pretty stable to me.  But, then again, I have 
a signal handler that traps and ignores the SIGKILL that results in 
"Gary is dead" for you.)

I'd say go with the default (say neither --enable nor --disable).  I'm 
pretty sure you don't want to use it (the default is to disable it)--I'm 
pretty sure Daniel said it's a start but it's a serious performance hit.
