My videos are under categorizing folders such as Commercials, Humour,
Movies and Music Videos so yeah I have a fair idea where a given vid
comes from.
Something nasty about video id is that it gets reassigned when you
rearrange your folders which is something I do occasionally. So, there
is an unpleasant randomness to the ID.
I don't think this merits extensive discussion but the point is a tie
breaker has to be chosen for the duplicate title situation and using
filesystem position gives predictable, if obscure, behaviour while
time-of-scan is harder to understand.

I need those changes for folder view to work when you're using the
database as your source.
To my mind a unicode-aware sorting solution would involve deriving a
class from QPtrList<Metadata>, reimplementing QPtrList::compareItems to
do the right thing based on the current ordering criteria and then
calling QPtrList::sort. Easy enough to do but there don't appear to be
any patches queued up for that so I'm reluctant to kneecap this one on
the chance that something better might appear someday.
After the dust settles one of us or somebody else can look at that and
also adding a table so people can add articles for their own languages.
That's a biggish change that deserves its own ticket, not ones
mentioning grab-bags or square brackets.
