Hello everyone,
This topic has already been discussed here on the dev
forum a long time ago. But I want to point out a few
things. Sony's new Playstation 2, the slim one, is
really small and nice to have in your living room. And
it's got a built-in 10/100 ethernet adapter and an
infrared receptor for the remote control. I think it's
perfect to serve as mythtv frontend. It's fairly
cheap(US$ 150). And, you can play great games in it
when you're not watching mythtv.
Despite the previous ideas, I don't think the PS2
linux is the way to go. First of all, it is not easyly
available and not so cheap. Second there would be much
more code for the ps2 to run.
There's a 'Homebrew' opensource software called SMS
Player http://sms.ps2-scene.org , which is capable of
decoding DivX videos from a dvd or network connection
in the playstation with great quality. It, however,
does require a modded console. I think it is a nice
start for a mythtv standalone frontend.
I would like to know if there's someone willing to
help me in this venture.
Best regards
