The log I pasted in my previous post is when I simply restart 
mythbackend (without doing anything else).

I'm unconvinced a rescan will fix this.  But DTK is probably right on 
this, since he wrote the code (thanks). If more failed recordings turns 
up after the rescan, I will continue this thread. Thanks all.
