You are right I was a lil confused _but_ only because I thought
mythtv-setup asks me those questions as it did before. the rest is as i
said. i carefully removed any library/executable from my
PATH/LD_LIBRARY_PATH before compiling the svn version:

$ which mythtv-setup
which: no mythtv-setup in ...
$ locate libmyth
$

I checked out the repository some time ago, compiled it, uninstalled
every file of the mythtv gentoo package, installed the themes, setup my
LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point to the svn libmyth* and executed mythtv-setup.
 since i added several debug statements to the source in
libmyth/libmythui and mythtv-setup and those got actually executed you
should have read the rest of the mail.

but... yesterday i compiled qt with the debug configure switch on and
today mythtv-setup works. i have not investigated what happened but the
log file of portage (gentoos package administration system) tells me
that there was no qt version change. i only recompiled it with debug
flags on. nevertheless that does not solve the problem...

btw do you regularly use valgrind? since it gives me some errors, use of
uninitialized variables etc. maybe it is a segmentation violation issue?

greets
tobias
