I haven't closed the ticket, since the exact cause of the problem 
has not yet been located, but these changes do improve
the handling of these packets in a small corner case.

So far *touch wood* i haven't seen any
"Started PESPacket, but !payloadStart()" messages
since this change, but I previously have gone up to 2
days between occurances in my logfile. However valgrind
is now completely happy with the backend in this area.

The correct approach is to checkout the branch and build that in
the usual manner. If you know what you are doing with patching
then you could get the 2 patches and apply them to your tree,
