[mythtv] frontend ui screens not responding to user input on OS X

Have just built the frontend on OS X (svn r10219) as per the suggestions 
at http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Myth_on_Mac_OS_X. It runs ok (see 
console output below) but ui behaviour is odd. I thought at first the 
frontend was not responding to keyboard input but in fact it is, it's just 
that the display does not get updated. If I meddle with the window manager 
(eg F9 F9) the changes appear. Does anyone recognise this behaviour - and 
perhaps some tweaks to the configure/build steps which will avoid it?

Video displays fine when I eventually get through to the watch recordings 
screen and select a recording.
