[mythtv] Diagnosing QAM tuning

I'm trying to figure out why I can get a good tune from a channels.conf 
entry using mplayer but then when I tune the same channel in MythTV, I get:

2006-06-12 11:29:31.843 TVRec(4): Changing from None to RecordingOnly
2006-06-12 11:29:31.893 TVRec(4): HW Tuner: 4->4
2006-06-12 11:29:33.553 DTVSM(0): Ignoring encrypted program

What can I provide here that would help with diagnosis (logs, verbosity 
levels, etc)?  It seems strange that Myth would complain about 
encryption when I can get a good JPEG frame grab from mplayer...
