The other thing I was thinking was that when I did a debug rebuild to 
try and get a backtrace, I used only the 'debug' option, I did not 
specify '-enable-proc-opt' or any arch options, so perhaps there is some 
optimization during compile that is causing the problem? I did not get 
any segfaults running the debug build under gdb, but prior to that I 
could get one every time.
