For a user, there's a huge difference between

- apply code changes, recompile
- write regexps (from a remote control, none the less)
- accept centrally-managed fixup changes, that might even be community QA'd

True enough. However, I was thinking of this from the other angle: the
network changes the program title mid-season, causing the exact same
problem for the user. This has happened this fall twice to programs I
record: once to Sopranos (where one episode had (K15) appended to the
title), and to South Park, which acquired an idiotic title prefix as
the channel rescheduled it. In both of these scenarios, the same
service would have helped users. It's a matter of a viewpoint.

Then again, I'm not convinced enough of this to write the code myself either.
