I have this problem as well, but setting startchan and restarting the
backend doesn't change the multiplex that is tuned when the backend
starts. I had to run szap {chan_name} -a 1 before I started the backend.
Basically the backend can't/doesn't change the multiplex.

This is running trunk 10905.
