[mythtv] AC3 from internal player

When I enable ac3 passthrough, the internal player only sends >1  
second of sound then nothing. I am using a USB creative labs sounds  
blaster 24 with the usb-audio alsa driver and my sound device is set  
to alsa:default.
Anyone have any ideas? it works fine without the pass through however  
on the south park dvd i am trying to watch the sound level seems very  
variable relative to load almost as if it is being compressed.
