I got 16:9 display but the pixels are square and mythgallery is OK 
(although it could make use of the extra 16:9 space by cropping the 
top&bottom and filling the whole width of screen - but that's another 
story).

Maybe you mean that mythgallery doesn't handle non-square pixels?
