It does it transparently. Just make sure the file path to the recording 
on both the frontend and backend are the same.

e.g. on the backend I store tv into /video/tv

On the f/e I NFS mount "backend:/video /video".

Myth should then detect this and use the local file rather than stream 
it over myth protocol.

The logs should say stuff about "found local file xyx" or similar if it 
is opening it via NFS (NFS is like local really in terms for file path 
transparency!). If it is streaming it will say something about mythtv:// 
IIRC.   I could be quite wrong here, but I think this is correct.
