The script updatelinks.pl will read the .nuv filename that myth creates,
query the DB, and create a link in another folder with a readable name ( The
way we use it, and one of the motivations for writing it was so that you
could map that folder from a windows system, and watch videos or organize
them from there).
One of the things you will find in the package that Devan posted is that
these scripts have the ability to query tv.com <http://tv.com> (it used to
be tvtomb). The reason for this was so that we could track the
'SeasonEpisode' information. So we created a 'string' to describe this info
that we wanted to track within the myth system. That string looks like this:
S05E13. So this string will read Season five, Episode thirteen. '
updatelinks.pl' will first look in the DB, and fetch this 'SeasonEpisode'
string (we had to add a new attribute to the database to track it in
mythconverg.recorded). If it cannot find it there, it will query
tv.com<http://tv.com>,
assemble the string, and populate the database.
Once it was in the DB, we could add support to display the string in other
places than just the link, which is what started all of this. So, we made
some changes to the sources for myth to accommodate, as well. If you want
those, you'll have to ask ;) But in the meantime, to create your links with
this script, you'll have to add that attribute to your data base, and it
shouldn't interfere with anything else until you decide you want in in
gui... that's where it gets tricky.
Hope this helps,
Bryan Hooker
