Both were running the same CVS checkout from yesterday.  I noticed the 
problem when I was going to upgrade the frontend to a new version but 
couldn't get a response from the backend to shut it down properly.  I 
would get "no recordings available" from Watch Recordings as well as no 
response when trying to exit the frontend (which does some kind of 
backend check since that seems affected by a missing backend as well 
when I've worked with it in the past).
