while somewhat agree, there comes a point where you have to give
some stuff up to still fit on a remote :)

if you hit right and the UI is gone then that's sorta user
error. you do have 5 seconds (if you got there via
TOGGLESTRETCH) and can easily see when the UI is going away
(well, at least with titivillus-osd)

on my URC 6131 there are: RIGHT, FFW and >>| keys. which, if
i bind >>| to stretchinc would work nicely for me (*once i
get the JP1 hack in place in order to use all those buttons*)

I guess i use it more like the first case (in my codebase i
have the RESET code pasted inside the "Space returns to
normal" handler, seems to work well according to my wife)
