How about using the first message line as a subject, the one that goes:

"Changes committed by paulv on Thu Jun  2 23:22:26 2005"

I'd prefer a format that sorts chronologically but in any case it'd be 
handy for when I need to know what my latest cvs pull actually 
includes.
