the issue is that...

guess what - the issue has gone
i was so used to the old behaviour that i never checked to make sure that it 
was still there - and it isn't

when you press up or down, the picture freezes, the channel changes and the 
osd comes up displaying the new channel.

this must have changed in the last few days.

thanks to whoever did that!
