The AC3 passthrough setting is not enough - you might want to do AC3 
decoding in software via liba52 too. I'm not sure if this is 100% 
working yet but it should at least be planned for. Software decoding is 
needed for people who don't have an external AC3 decoder, or e.g. if you 
want to do cross-over, digital room correction, dynamic range 
compression or some other processing before sending the audio to the amp...
