If you are suggesting a top level set of entries in the tree view to 
"sort by title", "sort by date", "sort by category", etc then this is 
also something what has been on my todo list for a while now, especially 
in the tv screen and music module.

However, I agree with Chris, couldn't you look to improve the view of 
the rec groups rather than adding yet another category type?
