That's depends on weather you are using SPDIF passthrough to your decoder 
(optical or coax cable) or you are doing software AC3 decoding. I have only 
been able to test my changes with AC3 passthrough but they should also be 
relevant to software AC3 as well. I am not sure if sofware AC3 works out of 
the box (there was a thread late last year about it)

No, SD channels work almost perfectly for me. I am using dual avermedia 771s. 
Although I do get xvmc assertions when running HD channels with XvMC enabled 
(nvidia fx5200).
