Well I only asked because I noted that it is a frontend specific setting - on 
a multiple frontend system which instance does the backend use? e.g. In the 
hypothetical situation that I'm using a hardware encoder, my Eritrean 
flat-mate sets his frontend to use Afar and we assume that both English and 
Afar audio streams exist - would we have a problem?

I'm not sure why I'm interested, I don't have a hardware encoder or a foreign 
flat-mate and it doesn't affect me. I guess it is just my job - I seem to 
spend most of my time programming to avoid even the most unlikely problems!
