Magic.
I'll give it a hammering over the weekend.... haven't had a chance to test 
some of the more recent patches. Got distracted fixing the unichrome 
driver.... I can't multi-task one project at a time.

Now this is in, I'll post the matching colour osd patch. (got it working in 
the end - for some reason sometimes the osd object contained a null pointer. 
no idea why yet, but it was much more likely to happen with the colour patch)
