]Wouldn't it be simpler to just use the joy2key utility?  It has the
]advantage of being able to direct key events to arbitrary programs,
]like irxevent, so you could use it to control mplayer or xine as well.

Wouldn't that break MythGames?

I could see myself using this. My mythbox is to the right of my sofa, so
using the remote can be difficult, but I could easilly use a joystick.
