I don't know if this is important...  I am using
S/PDIF out, just like you, but I'm using oss for my
digital audio output.

I think there's something weird going on with audio
and video because sometimes my XvMC will hang and the
log says "waiting for prebuffer..." and "prebuffer
timed out..." forever.  The hang occurs when I skip
forward or back, at about the time the OSD should fade
away.
