Hmmm.. I was using a slightly older settings.pro with my paths for DVB etc.
Syncing my changes to the CVS settings.pro seems to have fixed it. The only
real notable difference I could see were these new lines

unix:linux*: CONFIG += linux
unix:freebsd*: CONFIG += freebsd
