[mythtv] Question about playback

The key to the concept in my house is my wife can operate the system. Once
I get mythtv running and showing the (fine) screen, it needs to be simple to
select. So somehow I need a button on the remote, or a selection in the
MythTV setup, or it isn't wife-friendly.

I know that most people won't have a wife/mom-friendly requirement, but it
counts for a lot around here!

I think I could use the lirc to hijack a button on the remote to launch live
TV without buffering? Is that reasonable? (At least until I tune MythTV
performance to get perfect playback?)

Can't you just run another application for this purpose, like xawtv?
