[mythtv] MythTV vs. Mythmusic mixer settings

I've experienced some strange behaviour regarding the mixer setting in 
setup screens of mythfrontend.

Mythmusic is fine with the mixer setting of: /dev/mixer, but MythTV 
refuses to play sound complaining about an "Invalid CTL" (Mixer attach 
error -2: no such file...).  MythTV also won't accept anything along 
the lines of ALSA:default, ALSA:mixer, etc...  What does work for 
MythTV, is just "default" (without the ALSA qualifier).  Unfortunately, 
this upsets mythmusic, which complains that it cannot open mixer 
"default", sets the volume to 100%, but at least keeps on playing.

So it seems that both mythtv and mythmusic use the same Mixer setting, 
but apparently they use it differently.  It's an all ALSA box.

Has anybody else seen this?  Any suggestions?
