Problem is always all the games that have to be patched because they 
don't work anymore in the new Mame. So I normally prefer to just stick 
with the version that works for me and never upgrade. So this fix would 
definitely be a step backwards for me.

Unless somebody can tell me how to easily patch the games, of course :-)
