I haven't tried it yet but from what I can tell it should help.  I was 
just replying to "can't you just set the display size correctly in X" 
though (to which the answer was basically yes I can make X think it's 
running on a 4:3 screen instead of 16:9 but that breaks software like Xine 
which handles the aspect (more) correctly.)
