No, that's reinventing the wheel.  IMHO the right solution is to emulate
syslog.  Mythbackend should trap the SIGHUP signal and use that as an
indication to close and reopen its logfile.  logrotate can than be
configured to send a SIGHUP to myth each time it rotates the log file.
