[mythtv] devfs bit

I just reinstalled mythtv on my Gentoo system and fought for half an hour 
why /dev/dsp0 and friends didn't appear in the dialog box; I found
  http://www.alsa-project.org/archive/alsa-user/msg10710.html

Which basically says that until you access the alsa-oss-compat devices,
they won't appear; so I needed to (wildcards won't cut it)
  ls /dev/pcm0
  ls /dev/mixer0

before I ran mythsetup.  Should this go into the setup docs or
should myth probe the files before making the dropdown boxes or
should this message just exist on the mailing list?
