This would be a great addition to the front end, but at the moment, I find mythweb much more useful.  You can then use a hi-res screen to drill down and find your programs, set recording options, etc.  This does allow you to search by genre as well.  

What I do is use Mythweb to setup the next weeks recordings, and just use the TV screen for checking what's on right now (I only have a smallish TV which is part of the problem...)
