[mythtv] IRBlaster basic questions

Sorry for asking a dumb question, but my next step is to think about remote
control. I've read the HOWTOs and I'm not sure what hardware I need:

I have a set top box from NTL that I wil need to control from myth, and I
also need to control myth from a remote. Do I need 2 pieces of external
hardware (a receiver and a sender) or is it possible to use one device (like
an IRBlaster) to do the job if the line of sight issues are sorted out?

Also there was a post here recently about alternative places to get an
IRBlaster, however I can't find this in the archive (only 3 mails about
IRBlaster). Can someone repost, or let me know a link for this.
