I don't think that the backend can do that.  However, the .10 version of
mythweb has some HORRID code in its mythbackend section, and does sort
of have a "time out" catch.   Then again, after it deletes things, it
queries the backend again for the recorded program info, so we'd have to
see at which point it actually dies.
